I am in IT industry from one decade. Gone through ups and downs, ran my own business in Information technology, worked with well-known companies and best quality people. I played role of typical employee and entrepreneur as well. Here for our discussion I am using terminologies as “Leader” for Management or you can say owner of organization and “Followers” for the employees.

Many companies touched the sky and many of them are not even sustained themselves for couple of years and many of them are just alive. When I tried to find out the reason behind this failure, I realized that, there is huge gap between vision of leader and vision of follower. Question is, why there is huge gap? Why there is mismatch in vision of leader and follower, I understand there is big difference in leaders thought process and followers though process. So you cannot push them to run with your speed or follow the footprints of yours and also you can’t force your employees to do so.

Most of the time people are not able to understand the difference between “Leader” and “Follower”, If you are leader then first thing you need to stop doing is blaming on followers for any failure instead you need to lead them in such way that they will not fail anywhere. Please keep in mind that, that’s the reason they are followers and you are leader. Most of the followers don’t miss the chance of pushing leader down or pointing on his/her leadership qualities. Absolutely fine, it is not necessary that leader always do the right things. if you as a follower realize that leader is not doing right thing then you become leader and lead the rest of battle. Pulling leaders legs will not solve the problem. Either you follow with closed eyes or you replace him/her with your quality.

I have seen many such cold wars between leaders and followers. When I tried to understand the root cause I found that there is very poor engagement between those and that’s the area which causing all these issues. When your ego drives your work trust me you will not get the last laughs not even your organization. I understand most of the people will say there is politics happens inside the organization and most of the good people suffer in that dirty politics. I will say if you are straight forward and politically correct in your work then no one can touch you.

Well…. I always trust in one thing which is “Learn what is bad management as a leader so automatically you will learn what good management is”. To do so as a leader what needs to be done from your side? You need to focus on your own and also you need to make sure that every follower is doing same thing. For that you need to engage with you followers in such a way that you need to look like team not group. You need to win soul of your followers instead of trust. So let’s look at leadership from eyes of The Great Indian King Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

Leadership is at all level is a fine art. And like any art it needs to be encouraged and mastered through the process of contemplation, reflection and practice. The primary task of leader is to bring a feeling of goodness into the people he leads. A true leader creates a renaissance – a reservoir of positivity that frees the best in people and allows them to achieve extraordinary results. Trust me these are not quotes which just inspire you by putting some good words and excellent words which encourage you. If you want to really feel this and understand this then you need to open the pages of history and read the history of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj which is an icon, especially to the people who want to be a warrior not a soldier. In a very shot spam of 50 years, Chatrapati Shivaji was able to establish the concept of Swarajya and also an Empire which extended throughout most of western and southern India.

If you look at around you, people in general are not complicated. Most people are simple, honest and direct. And they prefer to be addressed and treated in a simple, direct, honest and uncomplicated manner. And yes there are some people who are directly focus on core activities. Chatrapati Shivaji, right from the early years of his life, when he was growing in strength, addressed his people a language that was spoken simply and addressed directly to their heart. This was possible because Chatrapati Shivaji himself thought and spoke with the human quality of honesty and integrity. By doing so, Chatrapati Shivaji was able to ignite ambition in the common people, making them excel in their efforts and perform extraordinary deeds.

Being follower of Chatrapati Shivaji or being part of his team, people felt from their heart that they had found the true leader who would bring genuine goodness into their lives. Their hearts, feeling and emotions, even their dreams, were understood by and synchronized with those of their leader, Chatrapati Shivaji.

Please ask yourself as a leader now do you really speak with your followers in same manner. Unfortunately nowadays followers are getting treated as a road workers. Followers are the best people on whom you can put the responsibility of failure.

Employee engagement will not get completed until and unless you lead them from the front and establish the vital emotional connect.
